Ottawa- (WSC)- Saturday 12 may 2007- Once
again, Canadian Somalis from Toronto and Ottawa demonstrated their
indignation and anger over Ethiopia’s invasion of Somalia and the
indiscrimatory killing of innocents in the Somali capital, Mogadisho. More
than two hundred people gathered on Friday afternoon at Parliament Hill and
then they marched to the U.S embassy on Sussex drive and finally reached the
Ethiopian Embassy on Slater Street.“Ethiopia
out of Somalia, U.S stop the proxy war, Meles Zenawi Down, no more killing-
Shame on Bush, no occupation, stop the butchery, imperialism down were among
the signs and the chants of the protesters”.

Where is Canada, what is the response of
our government to the tragedy said Abdillahi Ahmed, a student. He added that
until now we have heard only silence from our government.
Somalia hasn’t had much attention in the
media. More than ten thousand died since the invasion. The Ethiopian regime
and its allies have launched an attack against a sovereign country five
months ago, which was a clear violation of International Conventions and
United Nations resolutions. This war was conducted with the pretext of being
a war against terrorism. However, they have only succeeded to bring back the
chaos and the spiral of violence of previous warlords after a brief moment
of relief. There is a humanitarian crisis right now where Ethiopian armies
who have no mandate have caused despair and desolation in a city of two
million inhabitants. Increasingly, International institutions are raising
concerns about the Ethiopian presence and the U.S interference in Somalia.
