Radio/TV Dircector Killed in Mogadishu

Somali Exiled Journalists Association (SEJASS) is dismayed to learn that two unknown gunmen killed one of the prominent Somali Journalists in Mogadishu tonight.

Hassan Osman Abdi known as “Fantastic” was the Senior director of Shabelle Radio and was shot dead by two men with pistols when he was coming to his home in Nasteh village at Wadajir district in the capital.

He was rushed to the Madina Hospital, where he latter died. But the spokesman of the Shabelle Media Networks said that they will never stop their work.

“We strongly condemn this terrible killing of Mr. Hassan Osman. It is loose for great journalist” said SEJASS chairman Mohamed Osman Husein.

“This killing is against press freedom and the Somali government must carry out a true investigations to identify and to bring to the justice all those behind this assassination of the Mr. Hassan.” Continued Mohamed Osman Hussein.

Late Abdi (30) was a father of two daughters and a son and is the third Shabelle directed to be murdered since 2007. Officials from The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) will lead mourners at the funeral service on Sunday.

Somalia is Africa’s first and Words’s second most dangerous place to be a journalist.
